| Monday, August 03, 2009 (08:54:45) - 9 days.... |
As most people know by now, k8 and I will be heading off to the US shortly. In fact, it's 9 days and about 3 hours as I type this. We've even said most of our goodbyes and had a bunch of our mates over for some drinks on the weekend, as one of k8's friends has something on for her birthday next weekend. So now it feels kind of wrong to go and catch up with everyone, because we've already said goodbye to them.
Anyway, before we go, I've been trying to come up with different things to do while we're over there and different ways to record our trip. I've purchased a video camera, and of course I'm taking my photo gear, although the 1D is with Canon at the moment having some warranty work done. It was working ok, but Canon have released some new calibration gear for the autofocus system on the 1D's, and apparently the only way to find out if your camera needs recalibrating, is to have it done. As most of the work my camera does involves motorsport, it's even harder to tell if the autofocus is working properly and I'm just asking it to do things that no camera should have to do, or if there's a problem with the autofocus. As seems to be the norm with 1D Mk III's, I seem to get about 65-80% of shots in focus, which is good, but frustrating when the shots you really want end up being in the roughly 30% of shots that are slightly soft.
So, back to chronicalling our trip, I'm planning on uploading at least a photo a day to flickr while we're away, and putting a summary of our adventures up on here also. However, updates may be a little sporadic at the best of times, given how easily I am distracted. |

| Wednesday, July 22, 2009 (04:13:47) - The LandBarge Blogs |
Welcome to the shiny new LandBarge.com blogs. For now only myself and k8 will have blogs on here, but that may change in the future.
As you could probably gather from reading elsewhere on the site, we're off to the US shortly for my brothers wedding. We'll be flying out of Perth International on the 12th of August, spending most of the 13th of August in Auckland before flying out that night, crossing the international date line and landing in Los Angeles sometime in the afternoon of the 13th of August. Then it's a quick dash to the other side of LAX and onto another flight to San Jose.
We'll be in San Jose for about 3 and a half weeks, before we fly out on the 5th of September. This time crossing the international date line the other way, we land in Auckland on the 7th of September and sometime in between the 2, I miss my next birthday.
I've also been doing a bit of duty free shopping for the trip, which has included a Garmin nuvi 265w GPS and a Canon Legria FS200 video camera. Look out for more feedback on the 2 of those in future as we give them a bit of a workout on our trip. Both seem very capable so far, but they haven't done a lot of work yet either.
Anyway, that will do for now... I'll post more soon... |
