What are you drinking? What did you have last night?

I opened a bottle of Sandalford Elements 2005 Cab Sav last night, would give it about a 7 / 7.5... Just shy of the Evans and Tate 2001 Gnangara Shiraz I had on the weekend at an 8.5, and my current favourite, Brown Hill Estates 2004 Paddy's Red which I'd give a 9.0, marked down a bit just on the off chance something comes along that really blows me away....

The other day, I opened a bottle of Redgate 2001 Chenin, normally I'm not a huge white drinker, but this was a great drop, went down really well, slightly fruity, and while I was a bit concerned about opening a 6 year old bottle of white that had been stored at room temp until about 5 days ago, all my concerns were gone after the first mouthful...

If you can get hold of one of these, I recommend it, I'd give it about an 8.5 / 10, one of the best whites I've had in a long time...

Another white I'm drinking at the moment.... This ones a 2005 Petalon Seduction, from Rosabrook Estate. We picked it up on the last Dirty Weekend cruise, and it's one of k8's choices... It's a pretty fruity white, but not bitey or anything...

As I've said above, I'm not a huge white drinker, but I'm trying to give them a chance.. This one has certainly made it onto the list of bottles I can buy without needing a re-taste.. I'd give it about a 7.5/10... Not as good as the Redgate above, but certainly worth a try.

I've got 3 bottles of red open at the moment, a 2002 Rivendell "The Cabernets", a 2004 Sandalford Protege Shiraz and a 2004 Goundry Cab Merlot.

All 3 wines are very easy drinkers, quite smooth and tasty, although not as developed as some. I'd give them all a 7/10 at the moment, they're certainly something I'd drink again, but given the choice I'd choose either the Evans and Tate Gnagara Shiraz or Brown Hill Paddy's Red listed above. I can't help but think that those two have spoilt me a little this year, as everything I've drunk since has ended up being compared to those two wines.
