I tried this beer the other day, and was very impressed. The one I had came in a 500mL "stoneware crock" (another way of saying it was in a ceramic bottle). You're supposed to pour it from the crock into a glass, and leave the sediment in the bottom of the bottle, but as I didn't have a glass handy (I was in a no-glass area) I drank it straight from the bottle.

The bottle seems to keep the beer colder a lot longer than glass or cans do, and it was still cold all the way to the bottom of the crock.

The beer itself is a pretty heavy Trappist dubbel, not unlike many of the Belgian Trappist beers (La Trappe is the only genuine Trappist beer not brewed in Belgium) and at 7% it packs a bit of a punch too. The beer is secondarily brewed in the crock, which is why there's a bit of sediment left behind.

It's definately not a beer for everyone, if you think Corona is the best beer in the world, you probably won't like this one, but if your like me, and don't mind a pint of Guinness, a Newcastle Brown or other dark beers, then you'll probably enjoy a La Trappe Dubbel.

In case you're wondering, 500mL at 7% is considered to be about 2.8 standard drinks when sold in Australia.
