I have to mention Bernies, as this was my introduction to the 'late night fast food joint' culture in WA, as a young lad, my parents took me to Bernies (only a couple of times, but it left a lasting impression).
Bernies was originally a cafeteria caravan from the WWII days, and before it closed, consisted of 2 converted caravans with a dining room down one end.
The original Bernies site is now occupied the 'The Mount' private hospital, but I'll always remember sitting in that dining room staring out, wishing i was out there with the cool people and their cool cars eating down in the carpark...
When Bernies closed and the land was sold, there were rumours that the owners were going to use the rather large sum of money they received to start up a couple of new Bernies restaurants, however, that never eventuated, and to this day, I still can't decide how I feel about that. On one hand, if they could recapture the spirit of the original, then it would be great to be able to go back to Bernies, however, a large part of me feels that whats gone is gone, and we shouldn't try to reclaim the past.
