I've decided to start this thread up to show some of the stuff I've been doing lately that doesn't fit the mould of motorsport and car shows that most people know I take heaps of photos of....
I've been getting back into long exposure photography lately, went out on a Friday night a while ago and took a few photos... Dragged k8 and Turkish along to keep me company...
Anyway... here's some of the results...
Welshpool road in Lesmurdie, around 11pm, exposure of 4 minutes 30 seconds...
A quieter road just around the corner from the last shot, only 1 car in the shot this time, 4 minute exposure (I think)...
Out the back of Lesmurdie, this neglected sign is obscured by an overgrown hedge. There's a new sign on the neighbouring block. Exposure was 6 minutes 30 seconds, and it was still a little dark.
I wanted to try some flashlight painting, and here's one of the results... Exposure was almost 6 minutes and the railing and path leading onto Mundaring Weir were lit with a handheld spotlight. This was at about 2am and was the last shot before we decided to call it a night.
and there's a few more here:

and also on my flickr stream at:

These shots were taken almost a month later, another full moon means it's time to go take more photos in the dark... This was on the way back from the Good Friday burnouts at the Motorplex...
This disused bus stop is in the ex-suburb of Hope Valley, just over the other side of Anketell Road.
Anyway, the shot was a 3 minute exposure @ 100 ISO, lit with my Canon 580ex flash and some coloured gel's...
More shots at the links in the post above...

Here's a couple of shots from a trip to the old South Coogee Power Station.

This place is _huge_

This is the coastal side, the bigger of the 2 main halls.

Instructions on what to do if there's an alternator fire.

From what I've read about this place, these waterways were used to keep the system cool.

This is the other of the 2 main halls, just as long as the first, but not as wide.

The poor old Datsun's seen better days.

I wish I could say this was some never-ending pipe to the centre of the earth or something, but it was just under 2 metres deep.

By now the light was starting to fade, so these last 2 shots use a lot of additional light and some long exposure. This is one of the doors leading from the eastern hall back into the coastal side.

One of the entrances to the main hall, this one on the northern face.
There's a lot left to discover about this place, so I'm keen to get back there one day. (or night)

We went out last night and took a few more photos...
The following shots were all taken from the South Perth foreshore.

View of Perth city from beside the Narrows Bridge.

View of the "Old" Swan Brewery from near the Narrows Bridge.

Shot from between the 2 Narrows Bridges from the south side.

After we took those shots we went for a drive to the old Belmont Kiln's (near Ascot) to see whether we could get in there and take a few shots. Ended up taking a few snaps of a mates MX-5 out the front.
After Belmont we headed to Alfred's Kitchen for a late dinner and then ducked around the corner to take a few shots of some historical Guildford buildings.

This is the Guildford post office, which is still in use today.

This is the "Old Colonial Gaol", just a short walk from the post office.

And one of a train passing us, looking from the post office back towards Alfred's.

Here's some shots from the weekend. It's time for another full moon, and although there's a lot of other ambient light in these particular shots, thats usually about the time I go out looking for things to shoot at night, because if there's no other light around, there's always the light from the moon.

Shot from the top of Jacobs Ladder in West Perth.

The view of the city is pretty cool from here too.

And looking south out over the Freeway and the Swan River
